This Kronos Island walkthrough will provide you with all the tips and tricks needed to ace the first world you explore in Sonic Frontiers. After conquering Stage 1-1 in the game's opening moments, Sonic will emerge on a vast grassy island where he's guided by a mysterious voice.

This first island will act as a tutorial, teaching you about how Sonic Frontiers' open-world segments work, including how to find Chaos Emeralds, battle Guardians, activate portals and locate titans. This guide will show you how to progress the main story arc, gather the Chaos Emeralds, rescue Amy and escape Kronos Island.

The main goal on Kronos Island is to unlock the various Chaos Emerald vaults scattered around the area. To unlock them, you'll need vault keys, which are found inside the various stage portals dotted around the map. When you regain control, you’ll emerge in a mysterious open-world setting. Climb the nearby rocks and push forward until you enter a large open clearing.

In front of you'll find your first Challenge. There are a bunch of these small puzzles around the map, each of which offers a short activity that'll take a few seconds to complete. Finish the activity and you'll unlock a new section of the map complete with every point of interest icon, as well as create shortcuts to previously visited areas. Challenges are marked in the world by a white question mark waypoint containing the challenge number, as shown in the picture above.

The first challenge we'll need to complete is the switch puzzle ahead of us. To complete the switch puzzle, run across all three switches in the circle. When they're all pressed down, the objective will be complete. Grab the heart-shaped seed that drops nearby (we'll need this later and any other drops you find like it later in the level).

Following the encounter, take a second to complete the two obstacle courses to your left. Both will net Sonic some additional rings and a collectable type known as memory tokens. Although we can't use these just yet, they'll be essential to continuing the story later, so stockpile them when you can. When you're ready, head north of the switch puzzle to get our next tutorial.
