0High above the Earth's atmosphere, Dr. Eggman lures Sonic into a trap and finally manages to do the impossible:

Draining the power of the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman splits the planet below into pieces, unleashing the fearsome Dark Gaia, which in turn gives Sonic a rather..."festive" makeover.
Tossing Sonic and the Emeralds out into space, Eggman gloats about his latest plan to rule the world, and boasts that his dream city, Eggmanland, will finally come to be. While this is happening, Dark Gaia appears to crack under the strain of being forcibly awoken, and spreads itself across the globe.
Back on solid ground, Sonic happens upon "Chip" - a small, winged creature who suffers from a rather crippling bout of amnesia. Thinking it best to help the little guy out, Sonic teams up with Chip, and together they set off across the world to discover Chip's true identity, restore power to the Chaos Emeralds and bring the world back together (literally).
And with that, our story begins...
