Sony is making waves in the gaming industry with the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro, developed by its in-house project Trinity. One of the key points of the PS5 Pro is the use of the Viola SoC, which is manufactured using TSMC N4P technology. This custom APU will feature AMD Zen2 cores, ensuring compatibility with the current version of the console. However, the APU goes further and allows the processor cores to reach an impressive 4.4GHz, promising better performance for gamers.
The most significant improvement, however, is the graphics capability. PS5 Pro will use the new RDNA3 architecture, which will contain 56 computing units, which corresponds to 3584 stream processors, 224 texture units and 96 ROPs. This means that the PS5 Pro will not only have more cores than the competing Xbox Series X, but also a newer and more advanced architecture.
PS5 Pro also brings improvements in ray tracing acceleration, which is an essential part of modern games and graphics. Thanks to dedicated BVH tracking hardware, a smoother and more realistic visualization was ensured. In addition, the console will feature fast storage and advanced upscaling techniques, which will contribute to a truly immersive gaming experience.
