Sophie Turner is in final talks to portray Lara Croft in Amazon’s highly anticipated Tomb Raider series, according to sources close to the production. The series, based on the popular video game franchise, is being developed by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Amazon MGM Studios, which is producing the series, declined to comment on the ongoing negotiations.
Turner, known for her Emmy-nominated role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, was among the actors who tested for the role, previously played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander on film. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, announced the project in May, calling it an “epic” and “globe-trotting” venture. Waller-Bridge has shared her enthusiasm for the project, noting, “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure.”
The Tomb Raider series, produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins under Wells Street Productions and several industry veterans, will bring the iconic character to the small screen for the first time. #SophieTurner #LaraCroft #TombRaider
