Sounds Like Sonic R (A Medley On The Korg Kross By The Xix)
0This isn't a note-for-note reproduction of these songs. It is my interpretation of Sonic R music, done by ear with some creative license taken here and there. The sequencer on the Korg Kross was used with all 16 tracks. Instruments include a choir, steel bell, two different pianos, a flute, strings, a fade-in special effect, five different bass instruments, an organ, a special effect arp, and more.
Most of this was played live (not quantized or otherwise edited). Drums and most of the bass lines were played and quantized (made in perfect timing, although not otherwise edited). There is one bass line that runs on an arp (I press a key and it plays by itself). All chord instruments were played live. After this project, I have a newfound appreciation for playing live (as opposed to quantizing everything, editing note velocities, and so forth). It has a genuine non-robotic feel to it that I hope you will enjoy.
A quick history: I was working on the first song in this medley, and I happened to notice how similar it sounded to Sonic R music. So I was like, "Why not do a medley of Sonic R music?" This is the result. While the songs may sound familiar to fans of Sonic R music, some noteable changes have been made, some on purpose. "Work It Out" is in major instead of its native minor because I like the chord progression I came up with for the chorus. "Living In The City" is not 100% correct. I never could figure out how it remains on one key throughout. The chords in the chorus on "Can You Feel The Sunshine" are not correct, but it's something I'm happy with.
Praise and glory be to God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit for providing for me to create and perform this music! Thank you, God, for inspiration, problem solving, ideas, and for being with me every step of the way during this lengthy project.
