Source Recording Tutorial (Valve Games)
This is a tutorial on how I record, and how you should record when playing any source game. Source Recording is normally unaffected by the quality of the computer you are on. If you can run the game, you should be able to record pretty good videos using it. Some source games:
Team Fortress 2
Counterstrike: Source
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Garry's Mod
Half Life 2: Ep 1/2/3
Alien Swarm (has problems)
Portal (has problems)

Windows Media Encoder 9 (Basically a file converter; very useful sometimes) = Microsoft stopped supporting it; you might be able to find it on some side website.

Useful console commands:
record filename = Records a .dem file named "filename".
stop = Stops recording a .dem file.
demoui = Opens the demo user interface (Shift+F2 does also).
playdemo filename = Plays the demo named "filename".
hidehud 4 = Hides all the hud (you can substitute 0, 1, 2, or 3 in for 4, for varying levels of nohud. 0 means you have normal hud).
cl_drawhud 0 = Removes parts of the hud.
r_drawviewmodel 0 = Makes your weapon invisible (to you).
r_flashlightbrightness 0 = Turns off your flashlight.
cl_glow_brightness 0 = Removes glows from infected/survivors.
voice_enable 0 = Disables voice chat from playing during demo playback (or in-game, so be sure to set it back to the default 1 when done).
startmovie filename avi = Records an avi file named "filename".
endmovie = Stops recording and avi file.
voice_loopback 1 = Loops your voice back to you, so that it can be recorded into the .dem file, or just so you can hear yourself talk O_o. You MUST use this while your recording the .dem file (when you're ACTUALLY playing the game), in order for it to record your voice.
HOW TO MUTE INDIVIDUALS IN L4D2:
voice_show_mute = Lists all players in the game besides their game ID number.
voice_mute # = Mutes whoever has the ID number #. I.e. if the guy that has "3" as is ID number is micspamming, then just type "voice_mute 3" in console, and voila! No more mic spam. I love these commands :D
