South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Compulsion Games and published by Xbox Game Studios.
South of Midnight is set in a fictionalized deep south of the United States. Players control main character Hazel, on her journey thru the deep south after a hurricane devastates her hometown of Prospero and she discovers an ancient weaving power that allows her to mend broken bonds and spirits. Along her journey, Hazel encounters many different mythical creatures linked to Southern American legends as well as enemy creatures known as “Haints” as she attempts to untangle her family’s past while reweaving the tears in the Grand Tapestry and finding a new place to call home.
The gameplay is all based on Hazel’s ability to use her weaving powers for combat, solving puzzles and traversal. The game features stop motion animation using maquettes of clay stop motion figures to create the unique game art style for its Southern folklore world and cutscenes.
South of Midnight released on April 8, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
