Space Harrier II is a surrealistic sci-fi rail shooter developed and published by Sega for the Mega Drive in 1988. SH2 is one of 6 titles that launched with the console along with Altered Beast, Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, and some others.
While not as fun as its 1985 original, Space Harrier 2 is a fairly impressive showcase piece for an early 16-bit game due to its attempt at replicating a 3D playing field with mostly 2D sprite animation.
The story and gameplay is simple:
In the 6th millennium of the cosmic universal calendar.
You control the titular character as he must protect the Fantasy Zone from hostile forces. To do this, Harrier uses a bazooka that doubles as a jet pack and flies towards the horizon, notably not needing a ship. You must guide Harrier through a dozen stages of mutated wildlife, murderous robots, monsters of myth, and "counter-harriers" in order to accomplish the mission.
You start with 3 lives with the only opportunity of getting more chances being point collection... There are no continues - If you lose all of your men, it's back to the title screen.
