A time lapse taken by the International Space Station Expedition 34 crew.

Taken on June 1, 2013, this time lapse sequence shows how the sun remains above the horizon during a high beta angle.

The beta angle refers to the angle between a vector from the center of earth and the Sun and the orbit plane of a spacecraft. Due to the orbital mechanics of the Space Station, and the way the sun's apparent position in the sky changes throughout the year, the Space Station crew experiences a variety of sunsets and sunrises throughout the year. Periodically, the Space Station enters a high beta angle, during which time the sun remains above the horizon.
