This is my first time playing a Baldur's Gate game (unless you count Dark Alliance 1 and 2 on the PS2, but they play very differently compared to this one). I also have never played Dungeons & Dragons or Divinity: Original Sin 2, so it's been quite the learning experience. The fighter class is solid for a beginner though, and I'm having a much better time than when I tried playing a wizard.
