Spelunky beaten from the first stage without using the action button or taking damage. Not using the action button means that I can never pick up any items or use my whip. My only way to defeat enemies is to jump on their heads or to use my very limited supply of bombs and ropes. Be sure to have annotations turned on, as I have provided commentary for this run.

I make one exception to my conditions so that I may pick up the crate of flares on stage eight. I justify this by pointing out that, in earlier versions of Spelunky, there was a dedicated flare button that did not force the player to use the action button on dark stages.

Spelunky is a fantastic roguelike platformer with a ton of depth and nearly infinite replay value. I have more than 1000 plays across two computers, and I am still learning new things about the game. Download it and try it for yourself:
