I found this Splintered Oar during Hell ACT I - The Doom in Wortham. It dropped off of the Urzel Mordreg, Its possible this always drops from the same Demon as others have since reported finding it in the same spot after uploading this video

When I looked at it in my inventory I was surprised as it was the first item (other than pony level items) that I have obtained with a text description/story attached to it.
From the info i can find, quite a few people have been getting these as drops.. and it appears to be just some joke item thrown into the game for a laugh. Since its Two Handed and has very low damage compared to other lvl 50 Two Handed swords, its clearly not meant to be useful.
Someone posted this link on a forum, showing that this item was a legendary item during the beta, but now its just blue... possibly a bug?, doesn't matter really.

I will be holding onto the Oar just because I think its a nice and strange thing to have, been having thoughts of trying to kill Diablo with it, maybe all the bosses if at all possible. Although I will have fun in trying, to be honest I might lack the skill required to pull that off.
Also I have been thinking, is it possible that the Oar might have a secret function, quite like the pony level..... There are the Black Rock Ledger pages with numbers matching those found in the TV series Lost, and well... this is an Oar, something to do with boats/water... a long shot I know, but you never know with these sorts of things. Perhaps if someone managed to collect all the pages, and the Oar, and then activate something/went somewhere, something might happen.
