SpongeBob: Harold SquarePants
10Harold SquarePants is SpongeBob's father and Margaret's husband. Unlike their son, who is a squared-off tube sea sponge, Harold and his wife are designed as round sea sponges. Although both SpongeBob and his parents are modeled after real-life species of sea sponges, their markedly different appearances have not been explained.
The decision to have SpongeBob's parents resemble round sea sponges was a reference to SpongeBob's original design.
DESCRIPTION
Harold has a gray mustache and wears a golden glasses with blue lenses. He is light brown with dark brown holes. He wears a white shirt, brown pants, a black and yellow belt, and a tall white hat with a brown stripe. His head, along with his wife's, is much rounder in appearance than SpongeBob's, making them look more like sea sponges, unlike SpongeBob, who is a squared-off tube sponge.
PERSONALITY
Harold usually seems to be a happy, cheerful fellow who likes to take care of SpongeBob with his wife, Margaret. He can also be a bit protective of his wife, as seen in "New Digs." He does, though, seem to like to spend time by himself, as seen in "BlackJack."
BIOGRAPHY
He was born as one of the five or six children of Grandma and Grandpa SquarePants. His known siblings include Captain Blue SquarePants and Sherm SquarePants.
He married Margaret BubbleBottom when he was an adult. They have one known child, SpongeBob SquarePants.
According to SpongeBob's thought in the episode "BlackJack," Margaret says "...it's so nice to spend quality time with you in the office all hours of the day," implying that he has or had, at one point, an office job.
He currently only lives with Margaret since SpongeBob moved out.
ROLE IN SERIES
"Home Sweet Pineapple"
He and his wife come to pick up SpongeBob after nematodes eat his pineapple house.
"Culture Shock"
Harold and Margaret watch their son (among others) perform at the Krusty Krab talent show.
"No Free Rides"
Harold and Margaret visit Mrs. Puff, thanking her being the greatest teacher that helped their son get a license. Harold and Margaret gave their son a boatmobile for "passing" his driver's test.
"Driven to Tears"
Patrick spots Harold and Margaret, greeting them and believed they were his parents. Harold reminded him they were SpongeBob's parents before the latter told them that he got his license. After Patrick and SpongeBob leave, they seem disappointed that SpongeBob does not have his driver's license, seeing that even an idiot like Patrick has a license.
"New Digs"
Harold and Margaret come to visit SpongeBob ever since he started living at the Krusty Krab. After Mr. Krabs tears the curtain away to find Margaret in the middle of showering, her frightened yells get the attention of her husband who, misinterpreting the situation, angrily beats Mr. Krabs
"Sing a Song of Patrick"
Harold and Margaret are seen in a photo hung on SpongeBob's wall. When Patrick blasts his song "I Wrote This," the photo comes to life and Harold swipes the photograph of him and his wife behind the wall out of disapproval for the song
"BlackJack"
BlackJack invited Margaret and Harold to a party to celebrate his release from prison following a littering charge. However, due to an infestation of krill at the couple's house, they instead hold festivities at BlackJack's, aware in the meantime that their family portrait was mishandled by a fumigator. SpongeBob is invited to the same party, and when he finally gets to BlackJack's house hears Margaret scream. As this follows a series of misunderstandings, SpongeBob charges in to his parents' "rescue," only to find that they were not actually in danger. They explain the krill infestation and that the screams he heard followed Margaret dropping and breaking a glass. She, her husband, and their son are amused that BlackJack has shrunken in size
"A SquarePants Family Vacation"
Harold drives SpongeBob and Patrick to the Great Barrier Reef as part of the vacation.
"SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout"
Harold and Margaret attend their son's birthday party. He agrees with his wife when she remarks to Harold on how their son has a variety of friends after seeing many guests show up to the house
