Squeaky Plays: Grabbed by the Ghoulies Episode 1
8Grabbed by the Ghoulies was Rareware's first title after being bought by Microsoft, which would end up being its downfall. Grabbed by the Ghoulies suffered horrendous sales due to a combination of the "super mature for MANLY ADULTS" Xbox demographic who were too cool for them "dumb kiddie games" and a large portion of Rare's former fanbase rising up in outrage at them leaving Nintendo and launching a misdirected boycott of their first Xbox game in protest. Its probably in part because of this poor first step that Rareware began its (in my opinion) downward spiral with Microsoft, becoming more and more obscure in Xbox's developer catalog until they were essentially allocated to nothing more than Avatar and Kinect projects.
Sadly, most of the original Rare staff has moved on to greener pastures so even on the off chance Ghoulies did see a sequel despite its initial sales, the Rare nowadays aren't the same folks who worked their magic years ago. This is one of the last few games produced with that Rare charm and its been tragically under-appreciated due to its poor publicity, which I aim to correct ever so slightly with this LP series. So sit back and enjoy this awesome haunted house romp through yesteryear!
