A quick runthrough of four maps part of SRB2 1.09.4's Circuit rotation before they were removed from 2.0. The zones are Quicksand Ruins, Tainted Gorge, Fertile Canyon, and Sonic Circuit.

Quicksand Ruins was known for being a thokfest, which refers to maps that require excessive, though accurate use of Sonic's ability, the Speed Thok, to win. It was reworked into Burning Sands for SRB2 2.0, where Tails and Knuckles players get a shortcut designed specifically for them and includes more hazards such as Flame Jets and sand-falls.

Tainted Gorge Zone, a level based on Techno Hill Zone Act 1, was removed entirely during the transition to 2.0. The map slot it used, MAP71, was replaced with Race Alley Zone, which was originally entered into the July/August 2006 OLDC Circuit division that won with a score of 8.86.

In 2.0, Fertile Canyon was reworked into Emerald Coast (Not to be confused with the Sonic Adventure zone of the same name). In addition to the Greenflower Zone theme being removed, the map was altered to give off a beach-like setting. There is also a shortcut that Tails and Knuckles players can take.

Sonic Circuit is considered by many SRB2 players to be one of the worst maps in SRB2's history. As shown, it was a Circuit map with absolutely no hazards to slow down the player. Tails and Knuckles were put at a significant disadvantage here, as neither of their abilities were able to help them keep up with Sonic players. Due to the map's reception, it was removed from SRB2 2.0, and the map slot that Sonic Circuit used, MAP77, was replaced with Warped Woods Zone, which first appeared in the September/October 2008 OLDC Circuit division that won with a score of 6.57.
