Hello everyone. So, considering that i got all wr's on ps4 on digital version, i decided to jump on disc version that i bought in 2018 but never tried myself (i used digital cause i prefer more these types of content rather buying discs) and also wanna try to dedicate myself in grinding fairy storage. But, upon my attempt of such practice, i found that i can't reach even peace keepers and had to reenter game entirely. So did it but then realized i'd like to check spyro 2 and 3 differences besides "game require patch". So this video is a bit about spyro 1 and then spyro 2 and 3.
I looked here more as speedrunner and not casual, so i skipped some things while looking for how game works. And there isn't much to go for spyro 2 and 3 so this is probably the only real visit in these 2 games. Also savefiles from further patches aren't compatible and game will erase them, unlike going from scratch for patch.
I'll be doing fairy storage runs anyway, so besides that there's probably nothing hugely different in spyro 1.
There's overall different sounds in menu, sparx eating butterly, different graphics from 1.03 patch or so, if we speak in general. Vases and chests a bit smaller. Physics actually slighly different and i'll say about it more in Spyro 3. Skyboxes a bit different. Color codes aren't extending once you reenter game or quit-continue, so you have to type each time and i don't think it's allowed while in runs (only prior). And even if allowed - it would be annoying to type each time just for one attempt.
Spyro 2 seems slighly same and the main difference i found here is skipping too fast causes dialogue to continue it existing to play and finish same way as og does. Instead of green gem in top-left, it's light blue gem. Glimmer and Idol are pretty much same, Colossus has issue with playing music properly upon hockey section. And speaking of hockey - you can't really slowdown yourself upon moving, and it makes minigame harder to beat. Hurricos doesn't have last gate skip and you actually have to open it casual way. Also this is where i found that cutscenes doesn't play at all at exiting or entering exit portals. Wrong warp doesn't work here but seems it has different animations from current patch.
Spyro 3 is where i actually found how it was different back on 1.0 patch. Egg animations can't be skipped at all but it has a bit better camera work once animation ended. Ami skip is still possible but even more harder than on 1.03 patch. Sunny villa is different and mainly in skateboard - camera and lizards here works differently. It feels weird but manageable. Cloud Spires.. it feels similar to hurricos but even more - you can still do 2 out of 3 skips. The one you can't do is.. skip to Clare egg. You either keep bonking on wall or not having enough height at all. This is super unfortunate but it exists here. Also this is the only level that actually plays spyro 1/sorceress fly-in animation. Sheila plays here music a bit faster and her headbash chests doesn't drop gems same way as at 1.03, which could be a bit faster. Molten Crater portal at sunrise is major difference and it actually looks beautiful. Spyro fast headbashes also works different from current patch, so there's probably no advantages in these. Thieves in Molten works same except ending of red thief - he doesn't slowdown when he drops down.
