A clip from an interview that I did with Bill Randolph (who worked as the lead programmer on Ultima 9 at Origin Systems for much of its development). The interview covers just about every imaginable aspect of Ultima 9 and its development (especially the technology behind it!), as well as the internal goings-on at Origin during the late 1990s; in this segment, Bill discusses the popularity of the Glide 3D rendering technology, why it (briefly) enjoyed far more market popularity than Direct3D, and why textures presented a particular challenge to the Ultima 9 development team.
