A quick test to see which is faster in the case of multiple levels.

Stage Select is faster for a single level by about 11 seconds
For 2 stages, Gaia Gate is faster by about 6 seconds

Getting kicked back to the world map and choosing your stage takes roughly 15 seconds, whereas using "Continue?" with Gaia gate takes about 2 seconds.
