Starfield Gameplay Walkthrough - Intro and Character Creator
0Starfield begins in the year 2330 at the Argos Extractors Mining Outpost, located on the Moon of Vectera. You’ll find yourself inside an elevator going down into the mines, with Supervisor Lin, and her right-hand man, Heller checking you over. This opening scene will have you taking on the role of a "Dusty", whose job is to extract mineral deposits in exchange for money.
Follow Supervisor Lin
As the elevator comes to a stop, you’ll be prompted to follow Supervisor Lin around the mine. Keep close to her as she interacts with other Dusties and ensures they’re not slacking from their duties. After she’s spoken to a number of them, she’ll beckon you over to a crate where you’ll be instructed to pick up a Cutter. It’s time to get to work and collect your first lot of minerals!
Get the Cutter
Interact with the crate to collect the Cutter. Immediately after it’s equipped, 5 objective markers will appear deeper into the mine, just off to the left.
Collect Mineral Deposits
Using the Cutter, press the trigger button (RB or Left Mouse Button) to fire at the mineral deposits until they break. The materials will then be automatically deposited into your inventory as soon as they burst, and a notification will pop up on the top right of your screen to show you what you've gained. Once you have these mineral deposits, you can return to Lin.
Return to Supervisor Lin
Rejoin Lin and continue following her toward the digger, and Heller who is supervising it, as it excavates a hole in the mine to reveal a cave. When the path is clear, Lin will ask Heller to take the readings from the site. While Heller is concerned about the readings he’s getting that show a spike in gravity, Lin isn’t, as she knows there’s an anomaly present and it is in fact, exactly what she came down to the mines for.
Explore the Cavern
It's time to take on your first test as the new Dusty. Lin and Heller will ask you to explore the cavern up ahead. This is where you'll be given a quick tutorial, which will tell you how to turn on your flashlight, to illuminate the darkened tunnel towards the cavern (Hold LB or Press F).
Take the Strange Object
As you get closer to the cave, Heller will prompt you to continue going inside. You’ll enter a room with a strange object stuck in the glistening rock in the center, highlighting your next objective.
You won't be able to pull it straight out of the rock, so use the Cutter to break the mineral deposits. After chipping away some of the rock, pick up the strange object. As soon as you do this, you'll see a vision, and before you know it, you’ll be waking up with Heller and Lin watching over you again and making sure you're okay.
'Heller will ask you if you remember anything, before handing over your file, which cleverly leads to the Character Creation menu.
