Starsector GUIDE - How to Fix RAM Issues with vmparams - Go from 1.5 GB to up to 6 GB of RAM!
Let's take a look at Starsector's Virtual Memory Parameters (vmparams) and go over how to fix some nasty RAM errors that can show up once you start modding the game. This video is a step-by-step guide for how to modify the vmparams file in the Starsector directory in order to allocate more RAM for your modded play through. By default, Starsector only uses 1.5 GB of RAM, but here I show you how you can crank it all the way up to 6 GB. Remember, you know your system better than I do. Please worth within your limitations and please don't try to make Starsector use more RAM than you actually have. It's not like you downloaded any extra RAM anyway.
Enjoy my many mispronunciations of vmparams. I'm not trying to be funny, I'm just a little bit dumb.
Also note that while you CAN change the allocation for your graphics card, I have yet to find a need to do so even in my heavily modded play through. I have been fine with the default 2 GB allotment even if I can go up to 6 GB.
Starsector is a game near and dear to my heart. Combining world exploration with squad based combat, the game is the ultimate 2D space sandbox. In Starsector, you can found a colony in deep space and dominate trade, or lead a small squad of pirates to push the spoils of plundering between black markets. You control a ship captain who can recruit other officers and find and outfit other ships in a what is often described as Mount & Blade in Space. And it's awesome. Don't let Starsector not being on Steam fool you. It's great now and very playable today.
