For those new to crafting a species, this gives you some ideas on how to craft a superior and adaptive hive mind species.

But do not be quick to pursue devouring swarm if you are new to the game. You will start out at a -1000 opinion modifier towards every other empire, except fallen empires. In other words, everyone will hate and fear you. They will try to destroy you.

If you're new, choose a different civic. If you're a veteran, carry on.

(Correction: If your preference is a frozen/cold world, wet or dry worlds start at 20-30%. Tomb worlds at 0-10%. A 30% bonus to habitability essential makes every planet type except tomb worlds habitable.

Also, you can vassalize. Those vassals will hate you with a passion and use any moment of weakness to liberate themselves. It's better to cede, if you can.)
