Stop Talking and Explode! in 360°

Welcome to virtual BOMB DISPOSAL at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan.

On 30 November 2016, I brought my Gear VR to class and students in my Communication course played KEEP TALKING AND NOBODY EXPLODES!

In this game, one player is in Virtual Reality where they see a bomb they have to disarm. The other players have a manual on how to disarm the bomb and they give instructions to the player in VR as the timer runs down.

It’s a great party game but language teachers might want to check it out as a wonderful way to introduce students to using language in High Stress Situations. It’s a game but the pressure is real. Seriously, this is genuinely a great game for students to practice using English in high stress situations as it may be a game but the pressure feels real in the moment.

This is a nice communication game as students have to talk to one another in order for the manual folks to help guide the player in how to defuse the bomb as the time runs out. Well, it is a great party game too.

The VR aspect of the game is fun but there are non-VR versions of the game for PC and Mac for those who prefer to use a notebook computer for students to play with. Me, I like the VR option as it’s much more immersive but the flat non-VR versions are still fun too! I'm a bit of a VR-evangelist so there is that.

If you want to check out the game, head over to http://www.keeptalkinggame.com which has several links to purchase on various platforms (be sure to choose the right link to the appropriate platform for you). Get it on Steam at http://store.steampowered.com/app/341800/Keep_Talking_and_Nobody_Explodes/

In any case, watch the 360° video and enjoy a few of my students getting blown up. No students were harmed in the making of this video.

This 360° experience was created with a Ricoh Theta S 360° camera.

Note, this is a spherical 360° degree video so if you are viewing with a compatible browser or smart phone, you can move things around with the mouse or your finger.

If you are viewing via Youtube or another compatible application, you can use the Google Cardboard or other VR app to view the piece in virtual reality (put on the viewer and turn your head to see the different angles of the piece).
