[Stream] 2022 7DRL Let's Plays (1/5)
Time to play some of the new 7-day Roguelikes from the 2022 challenge! I've browsed through all 199 entries and picked 14 of them to stream. I'm not doing official judging this year, but as in previous years we'll be going through them with a critical eye while seeing what kinds of interesting mechanics we can dig up. This stream starts with some background info, then we jump into the first batch with Spellcraft, Orcish Fury, and Spellgeon, two out of three for which we had the devs in chat with us.
Today's games:
* 00:17:15 - Spellcraft (https://plasmastarfish.itch.io/spellc... Defeat enemies, collect letters, and use them to spell out new spells that you can then use to defeat more powerful enemies. Although too easy and paced fairly slowly, the core mechanic is unique and worth exploring, and this entry is quite polished in other departments.
* 01:13:40 - Orcish Fury (https://redxaxder.itch.io/7drl2022): Balance your rage against fatigue and the need for eventual rest as you play an Orcish king rampaging your way through a fortress filled with unique enemies. Lots of interesting momentum mechanics, weapons with attack patterns, and abilities to choose on level up. Gratuitous bloody violence rendered in glorious ASCII. My favorite of the day (definitely not just because it's ASCII! :P).
* 03:06:34 - Spellgeon (https://slogo.itch.io/spellgeon): Playing Scrabble against word monsters which are also spelling their way across a map, all with a bit of inspiration from Rift Wizard interface and mechanics. You, too, are the words you spell as you try to advance. Yes it's as weird as it sounds--check it out!
