So since I can't really livestream at the moment I decided to try something a little different, and being late to the party as usual I finally got around to watching Justin Wong's (@jwonggg) "Impossible Zangief Challenge" that he imposed upon hapless players at the recent Northeast Championship 2023. Now, I'm no Fem!Shep (@femshepFGC) or Diaphone (@Diaphone), but I figured I'd give it a shot myself… considering I'm used to fighting the CPU at Level 8.
Here's the "trick" — don't assume the CPU thinks like a human. While it's certainly fast and knows all sorts of ways to chain attacks together, it can also be baited quite easily; in the case of Juri versus Zangief, I found that standing a safe distance away and inputting a Light Fuhajin would entice Zangief to jump at her, leaving him open to her Heavy Tensenrin. Similarly, Drive Rushing him after a knockdown would often put him into a crouching guard, which can be exploited by her Forward Medium Kick (an overhead) → into her Standing Medium Kick → into her Heavy Fuhajin → into her Heavy Tensenrin… at least until you get him into the corner; then it's a matter of inputting her Standing Medium Kick against his guard and then counter-attacking whatever he attempts to follow-up with using her Crouching Medium Kick → into OD Go Ohsatsu → into OD Ankensatsu.
…and this doesn't just work on Zangief, either, as I demonstrated during a previous livestream against several CPU 8 opponents. Now, they're not perfect strategies either, particularly in Round 2 when I accidentally inputted a Crouching Medium Kick instead of Standing — which can _*not*_ be cancelled into Heavy Fuhajin — leaving me open to his infamous Drive Rush "infinite" (that he stopped for some reason?), nor was I able to bait him with a Standing Medium Kick in the corner at the end of that round.
In hindsight I suppose it's not much considering how late-into-the-game this is. Still, I had fun, as it's amusing seeing how the CPU's limited abilities can be exploited… now I just need to learn how to fight against _*real*_ players, eh?
(I hope Justin doesn't mind me copying his thumbnail style for this, but I wanted to give credit where it's due. XÞ)
