Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Arcade) - Ken Playthrough on Max Difficulty
This is a capture of me playing through the arcade version of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. This is being played through the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection for the Switch. I'm using my favorite character, Ken, and playing on the highest difficulty level: 7.
The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection was recently released for the Switch, and since I love Street Fighter II so much, I'll be posting playthroughs of each iteration of the game. Just like my SNES playthroughs, I'm completing this game on the highest difficulty level without losing a single round. I think this is what gives you the credits at the end since I didn't notice any credits when I lost rounds or used continues.
I first encountered Street Fighter II: The World Warrior at a 7-Eleven not far from elementary school around 1991 or 1992. I instantly became addicted to the game and couldn't stop thinking about it, especially during class. I had no idea how to play the game, however, so I had to ask other people at my school, but it turned out they didn't know either.
Despite this fact, I continually played Street Fighter whenever possible, and I even entered a Street Fighter tournament hosted by the same 7-Eleven. The store actually rented a bunch of arcade cabinets and placed them outside the store for the competition. It was quite a spectacle. Of course, I promptly got my ass kicked, but I had fun.
It wasn't until Christmas of 1992 that I received both a Super Nintendo the SNES version of Street Fighter II. My brother and all of our friends and neighbors proceeded to play the game almost nonstop, and thanks to the instruction manual, I finally learned the special moves, as well as simple combos and strategies. From that point forward I started fairing much better against other people. I also noticed that I had an easier time using a D-pad than an arcade joystick (although I still found joysticks fun).
Sadly, the SNES version of Street Fighter II was a bit watered down in terms of graphics and sound effects (the elephants no longer roared in Dhalsim's stage, for instance), but the gameplay was still there. Because of these differences, I still played the arcade version whenever possible, and those machines were everywhere back in the day.
The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection represents the first time that the original arcade games have been released on a Nintendo system, so I'm quite happy to finally be playing the original games again after all these years. The controls feel a little more finicky here than I remember, but it might be an issue with the porting process. In any event, enjoy the footage.
Recorded with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 and the Switch's HDMI cable at native 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. I'm using a Real Arcade Pro V Hayabusa joystick.
