You start at the south with your ally to your right. Richard can hold off enemies for a time but he will eventually get overwhelmed, so its actually better to clear enemies counter clockwise in his direction. You can build 2 defensive towers on your left flank and that will be enough to hold off assaults coming from your side, as long as you have enough archers and crossbow men as well as fire ballista. You also want trebuchets on that side because the enemy will make a mangonel on top of their tower. Destroying it will buy you some more time and save you from rebuilding your tower.
