We have just released our new v1.6 content update for Stronghold: Warlords, which includes a new AI opponent in Kublai Khan, three fresh maps to battle across, new Mongolian voice lines and achievements. Kublai Khan AI & New Map Pack (Version 1.6)
Used to the finer things in life and thus sticking to expensive, powerful armies with which to wage his infamous skirmishes, Kublai Khan is always playing the long game. A heavy reliance on Imperial class units including Crossbowmen, Imperial Warriors, Cavalry, Generals, Fire Lancers and - of course - Horse Archers, means that Kublai Khan is dependent on an elaborate economy to support his war efforts.
Give him enough time to build up and Kublai Khan will hit your castle walls like a hammer, meaning a quick plan for your wartime economy and early attacks are almost certainly the way to go. Likewise his siege engines lean away from ladders and towers, toward the more destructive options in your Stronghold arsenal. Expect mortars, mantlets, rocket launchers, hwacha and trebuchets out in full force, with a clear intent to blow apart your castle walls - Instead of sneaking over ninjas or flooding them with foot soldiers.
While Kublai Khan is undoubtedly the headline feature of version 1.6, three new skirmish maps also make their debut:
Kings and Mountains - Balanced as a four way face off between players, this map allows each of these illustrious lords to rule safely from the comfort of their keep or go for broke!
Entrenched - Offers a head to head scenario in the form of an unbalanced map for two players. With three warlords, as well as plentiful resources and ample build space, this map provides what have proven to be popular map features.
Distributary - Another triple threat map for three players with four warlords available. To survive, each player will need to build, reinforce and defend large sections of castle walls, in order to defend their lands and hold off potential incursions from two separate fronts.
The Mongol Empire Campaign (DLC)
This new campaign DLC depicts over a decade of military conflict across six new missions. As Kublai Khan’s story progresses players can expect a unique set of maps with fresh tactical scenarios and objectives to overcome, truly earning the title of Khagan. As part of this new campaign, The Mongol Empire DLC also introduces two completely new controllable AI warlords, The Monkey and Peacock.
The Monkey Warlord is all about surprising his enemies with unpredictable tactics and sudden castle breaches. Able to mimic other warlord abilities upon capture, the simian strategist chooses his unique perk at random from other warlords on the map. This resets each time a Monkey is captured and is further randomised if only other Monkey Warlords are present. Recapture to reroll an ideal perk for the situation and your enemies will be gibbon no quarter!
The Peacock Warlord knows the importance of keeping up appearances, boosting your economy and popularity. He accomplishes this with a perk that not only increases popularity from clothing, but also gives your villagers some of the finest attire in the land.
