Julien Desourteaux here, Lead Level Designer on upcoming Stealth Adventure title, Styx: Shards of Darkness. Today, I’d like to share a new trailer that shows how we envisioned and gave life, personality and soul to our witty goblin Styx!
We’ve made Styx’s latest adventure more ambitious than its predecessor in every department! This time around, Shards of Darkness takes our nimble thief out of the shadows of Akenash and into a far larger world with more skills, a greater bestiary, and more intricate, vertical level design.
Our game has also benefitted from a larger production and better realization. In this sequel, the story is supplemented by cutscenes in which Styx is able to express even more of his trademark wit and snark – you can get a sneak peek of his sarcastic, fourth wall breaking humor in this video!
You’ll also see why Styx is not the kind of character you're used to playing, and how his wits must outweigh his weaknesses.
As a small goblin, direct confrontation is the easiest way to kick the bucket! Instead, you’ll need to study your environment to find the best approach, and equip tools that are suited to overcoming your enemies and obstacles.
Discover how our “ugly little green character” can adapt to your playstyle. As we show off in this trailer, you can “be the guy that goes in and out through the level getting every item, or the sneaky one who never raises any alarm!”
Take full advantage of Styx’s acrobatic prowess and rain down from above, or use your tools and abilities to totally avoid detection – it’s entirely up to you. No matter how you play, he’ll be there for the entire journey, criticizing not only you, but his creators too!
