Super Castlevania 4: How to Get Up the Buzz Saw Stairs Without Cheating (Final Level)
Tips:
1. To continue up a crumbling stair, make sure that you’re holding up on the D-pad (once you’ve securely landed you don’t have to be holding left or right anymore).
2. Don’t panic. Kind of like with the harrowing rush of flooding waters and traps at the end of the Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1 the secret is to stay calm at all times and err on the side of being too slow and careful rather than on the side of being too impulsive and reliant on reacting to things on the spur of the moment. That’s the trick with a *lot* of things in these old action games, actually.
3. You can see from the video which candle the axe is found behind, and how useful I show that it is during the latter half of the stage. One of many things Egoraptor forgot about when he rambled about how useless the subweapons are in this game.
4. While there are different paths you could take, don’t let the game’s designers trick you into making you feel that planning your route up the tower is a complicated task. Do what works for you—or if you can’t find something that does, just go the route I did.
5. One of those golems (or whatever they are)—the last one before you enter the safety zone of the saw and the next section of the level—often seems to spawn too early if you don’t...I don’t know: stay far enough from where he’ll be when he *does* appear? Frankly, I’m still not sure what the trick is exactly but I didn’t spawn him early in this vid so just...do what I did, I guess.
Six. Those floating platforms toward the end? In general, the less time you spend standing on one and trying to see where it’s headed the less your chances will be of it not driving you into a spike. Stay hoppin’, and in only one direction, while training your eye whenever you can on the solid ground you’re aiming to eventually reach. If you’re looking at the spikes, you’re probably doing it wrong.
7. I’ve kind of already said this but don’t hurry any more than it would be plainly suicidal for you not to. Keep your calm—and take your time.
If worst comes to worst you have the password system: on a long enough timeline we can beat *anything*.
