Description: A not-for-sale, mail-in present from Japanese magazine Shogakkan Ichinensei, which is a magazine for parents with children close to or at the age of entering elementary 1st grade. This video helps students study the English alphabet and numbers, necessary for entering more prestigious elementary schools in Japan. Shogakkan released a similar Mario (and Kirby!) video later on in 1993, The Mario and Kirby Masterpiece video, which helps soon-to-be 1st graders learn Japanese kanji characters. The "ABC Song," a "Good Morning" song I've never heard before and "10 Little Indians" are played in this tape, with karaoke versions also included. I think that last song would potentially get Mario "canceled" in today's vociferous world. Cel art for this video was done by Mitsuo Kimura (木村光雄) and voice work by Gerri Sorrells. I'm not sure of the date of release for this tape (it's not listed on the packaging or on the tape), but I would guess 1992, just by the art.
This video was recorded on a Sharp VC-ES20B S-VHS deck using Sony S-Video cables upscaled to 1080p 60fps via the RetroTink-5X Pro, captured using an Elgato HD60 S+.
