super mario maker "shellshock part 1"
first level I made. there is multiple ways to do this one, I decided after finding out that the shells can bounce all over the place that I could design the level to account for pretty much all rare occurrences where the shell doesn't get stuck in a loop and this would lead to different ways to achieve objectives to progress through the level. in the first two the shell does get stuck in a loop. the first clip is a basic run where you just go through the level. second is a playthrough where I attempt to get most of the hidden stuff done. the part at the top left of the screen is entirely random in terms of how many coins you'll get, it's a bit like a pinball machine! I didn't do all the question blocks up there but they are all green shells on the top row so you can try to get the most coins as possible. I generally found that this was enough to get all the blocks smashed and clear a path through. another design for this level was so that if you were to lose a life all level progress would be saved, I thought it would be fun to imagine how to design a level where you can be reset to the start of the level yet all the blocks you destroyed and enemies you killed so far were kept as they are before you died. basically a continue rather than a reset, and the design of the level would mean that you can take a shortcut from the start point after each section of the level has been cleared. sort of a way to reward progress, but this is a level where there is a lot of luck involved in terms of high scores because of all the random unpredictability.
in the third clip I show what happens when the shell in the first part of the course goes a different way and how to destroy it with another one that is kept in the same row in case you need it. I also did the same with some of the other tiers on that section you have to ascend in case you bodge up with trying to smash your way through the path upwards to the long jump section.
forth clip is the later shell loop and what happens when it launches left, this gives you the star for the next section. you can also get the star by using the shell above this area, (like I showed in the previous clip,less luck involved this way.)
last clip we see it launch right and take out all the mushrooms... well most of them, not sure why smb does that? this clears a path underneath so you can just run through.
