By aiming downwards during each gap, Samus' hit box is decreased vertically, allowing you to land on the next platform. I suppose if you did this with a TAS, you could shoot the space pirates that would normally appear on these platforms in between each gap.

Fun fact, this took me nearly 40 tries to get right, in between my capture card refusing to work.
