I used to love Super Metroid. While I'd still argue that it's a classic, it really doesn't captivate me like it used to.

And I believe this is mostly due to two factors. First, control mechanics have greatly improved over the last 20 years, so platform games like Super Metroid feel dated and slightly clunky.

Second, modern games have taken the Metroid formula and improved it with modern navigation dynamics making navigation much less tedious.

Plus, I always loved the original Metroid better than Super Metroid anyway.
