Superguarding THE ENTIRE Audience Cannon Attack from Magnus Von Grapple 2.0
After watching FatGuy703's failed attempt video at superguarding the Magnus Von Grapple 2.0 cannon attack, the challenge run community over at the Glitz Pit Discord channel realized that it's definitely possible to superguard the entire attack, and there may even be some consistency to it. I set to figure out a way to make it easier and superguard the entire attack. I think I've found a solution. Consistency is still hard -- I'm trying to figure that out, still, but this is a huge step for hardcore Paper Mario: TTYD players.
Note that the consistency for normal guarding is laughable compared to the superguard - if I failed the superguard I could switch to normal guard very easily mid-attack (unfortunately, that isn't shown in this video). I could not go from being hit to superguarding. I HAD to superguard the first attack to get any further. At one point I was able to alternate between guard and superguard, but that lasted through 5 of the 10 hits and then I failed the superguard.
Yes, this is on Dolphin - I had no save file near Chapter 7, so I borrowed an English any% save file and used that. The Save State function allowed me to test out scenarios and different timing quickly. This video is from about 5 minutes of playing around with the superguard and the normal guard.
The trick to starting the chain is to wait for Magnus Von Grapple 2.0 to fire a "blank". Once he does, hit B.
Shout out to FatGuy703 for doing his Impossible Run in TTYD. Forcing himself to learn to superguard perfectly to victory has led to the challenge run community thinking outside our comfort zone in terms of possibility for certain challenges, even if it is, "yes, you can superguard everything consistently."
