Survival of the Fittest Challenge 1/2, Edgefield - Phasmo VR #51 - Missions 122-124, HP Reverb G2
Challenge Text: "Survival of the Fittest: You've got no pills, no sanity and no evidence to work with. It's gonna be a tough one!"
I'm surprised I didn't die at all.
Challenge aspects:
- Zero sanity
- 0% sanity pills
- Zero evidence
- Hunt grace period: 5 seconds, I believe
- 100% ghost speed
- Normal hunt length
- All equipment (but sanity pills don't give any sanity)
- Fuse box starts on
- Monkey Paw in the nursery - I didn't know this until the next video
- Events/Interactions high?
- Can ghost change rooms?
The first ghost was a Myling that did NOT sound like a Myling at all. I seemed to be able to hear it pretty clearly even when it was some distance away. So I got that one wrong. I guessed Mare, but I realized that's wrong too because it was clicking light switches a lot, both on AND off. A Mare never turns a light switch on.
The second ghost was an Onryo that didn't seem to want to hunt while I kept the candles lit, so I guessed Onryo and got it right. I wasn't expecting that.
The third ghost was a Goryo, but I thought it roamed too much to be one. So I guessed Yurei based on almost nothing and of course got it wrong.
I got one right. Two more correct and I'll get my $3000. I'll try again tomorrow. None of the ghosts walked fast during a hunt. Maybe I'll be able to identify a ghost more easily tomorrow.
What I learned:
- The microwave can beep.
My zero sanity/zero evidence pattern:
- Let a hunt happen. If it's a fast ghost, it might be a Hantu, Raiju, Moroi, Thaye, or Deogen. A slightly slow or fast ghost is likely a Twin. A Deogen will come straight to you fast then slow to a crawl. A very slow ghost is a Revenant until it sees you, then it speeds up a lot. A Hantu will sound fast in the distance sometimes, then slow down because it slows down in a warmer room. Raijus speed up around equipment (which is why I take an EMF in). If the breaker is on, a Jinn will speed up on sight if it's more than 5 meters away I think. Smudge the ghost - if it hunts again before 90 seconds, it's a Demon. If it hunts again after 3 minutes, it may be a Spirit.
- Put salt down in the ghost room. If it is stepped in, the ghost is NOT a Wraith.
- Light 3 candles around a crucifix. If the crucifix burns while the candles are lit, it is NOT an Onryo. If the ghost isn't trying to hunt while a candle is lit, but the candles keep going out, it may be an Onryo.
- Mares occasionally turn a light switch off immediately after you turn one on (even if the power is out). But any ghost could randomly do this. A Mare will NEVER turn a light switch on (this includes lamps, the TV and a computer, too.)
- Phantom and Oni are visibly different during a hunt. Phantoms are barely ever visible, and Onis are visible more often. If an airball ghost event with a hiss happens, it is NOT an Oni.
- Poltergeists will throw multiple objects at the same time and spike the truck graph when this happens. During a hunt, if they are being looped around something with multiple objects on it, those objects will get visibly flung very quickly one at a time.
- Banshees, Phantoms and Wraiths will stalk you and spend more time away from the ghost room because of this. Banshees will uncommonly wail in the paramic (which I haven't used yet). Phantoms will disappear during a ghost event when a picture is taken. Wraiths will NEVER step in salt and will teleport to you, giving off EMF 2 on your location.
- Obakes may shape shift during a hunt, temporarily becoming a different ghost model, or a different stance (crawl/walk/bent over).
- Mylings are quiet at a distance (but that didn't work out too much in Edgefield)
- A Mimic will always give off a Ghost Orb in the ghost room, even with zero evidence. Note that ANY of these ghost tells could instead be a Mimic, since the Mimic can imitate any given ghost.
- Shade, Yurei, Yokai and Goryo are harder to figure out when there is no sanity or evidence to work with. Shades won't hunt when you're in the same room, but since you can't control which room the ghost is in, this isn't very reliable. But if interactions or events are happening in the same room as you, it likely is not a Shade. Yokais will lose you more easily and not detect you past 2m when you talk or have electronic equipment - so clicking the flashlight when a Yokai is on the other side of a wall might be a fair test.. Yureis don't have a strong tell when there is no sanity to work with (their door close interaction can sap sanity). Goryos will not change their ghost room at all, and may not roam as much - but any ghost could potentially behave that way.
I need to remember that airball ghost events rule out Oni.
