I always make sure my hero is a Strider for this mission (which you have to do before you start the PREVIOUS mission) as it's the only way to have enough movement to pull off the trick with Devona.
Normally Devona is an Ally, and not part of the party until AFTER she deals with the guards but if you can get both Stephan and the MC into the room on the same turn she becomes controllable which makes the mission much harder, but also results in more loot and gold.
