Synthesis and Characterizations of Chromium Oxide Nanoparticles for the Photocatalytic Degradation

Layman Abstract:
Researchers at REVA University synthesized tiny particles of chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) using a simple chemical method. These nanoparticles were created using a substance called chromium nitrate and were carefully studied using various techniques like X-ray analysis, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and electron microscopy. The particles were found to have a spherical shape, a crystal size of about 16 nanometers, and a surface area similar to that of a fine powder.

These chromium oxide nanoparticles proved to be effective at breaking down a harmful dye called Brilliant Green when exposed to light. This suggests that Cr₂O₃ nanoparticles can be used as a powerful catalyst to help clean pollutants from water, offering a promising solution for environmental cleanup.
