5The plot of the game is based on the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day: you have to stop the T-1000, a superhuman prototype Terminator, from killing John Connor, the head of the Human Resistance, and Sarah, his mother.
In 2029, the player assumes the role of a reprogrammed T-800 Terminator cyborg who fights alongside the human resistance in their fight against Skynet. T-800 John Connor manages to break into Skynet's main office and disable the CPU in due time. The T-800 is dispatched to John's childhood when he finds the time displacement equipment. Its mission is to defend him from the T-1000 that Skynet has already sent back. A previous assault on Cyberdyne Systems was launched by John, Sarah, and the T-800 in an effort to halt the creation of Skynet. Following a police helicopter and a liquid nitrogen truck, the T-1000 catches up to the group and continues to pursue them. Liquid nitrogen allows the T-800 to smash the T-1000, but the latter just melts and reforms to keep chasing after John. Blast the T-1000 into a vat of molten steel to destroy it; the T-800 must stop the T-1000 from killing John in the end.
Depending on how the Cyberdyne raid plays out, two different endings could occur. If every piece of equipment is blown to smithereens, the player will get the message that Judgment Day has been saved. If not, the corporation will keep researching, and Judgment Day could still happen.
