Flynn is pretty sick about Yuri acting overly humble, so Yuri has a solution to make him understand...
Key Notes:
- The battle theme for this boss fight is "Fury Sparks."
Boss: Flynn - Lv. 62 - HP: 731,000 (Unknown)
Resistance: Wind, Light
Secret Mission: Force Flynn to use all his artes (including his Mystic Arte).
- This is a duel boss fight you can win or lose.
- This can end pretty badly for you, because it turns out this fight is much harder since the PS3 version days apparently due to Flynn being able to break through combos.
- If you're caught in one of Flynn's combos, chances are you're dead already, more so if he uses Demonic Circle, as that one attack easily inflicts 8,000 HP or more damage.
- At random, when you go into Over Limit, Flynn will quietly copy the OL level you went into (except he'll never gain invincibility through OL Lv. 4).
- So how to deal with him on Unknown?
1) Equip the Ultimate Red Cape, which you can get from behind the big rock at Phaeroh's Crag or doing the five courses in the Dragon Race side quest. This cape allows Yuri to absorb Flynn's fire and light attacks (while weakening Flynn's Mystic Arte so it doesn't murder you). He will always attempt to use his MA during Over Limit, as it does have range.
2) Following the above, have Yuri perform a MA early so Flynn cancels it and does his own. If Flynn isn't in OL, this counter won't be as harsh when he is in OL. Once done, Flynn won't counter any other time Yuri uses his MA.
3) As Flynn can suddenly regain his control even after you're done pulling your combos, I found out that it's best to use Yuri's Raging Blast as a combo finisher. This causes Flynn to either get toppled down or use Rising Falcon, Hell Fire Blade (note this can immediately hurt you as he ascends), or both, which prevent him from going all in. The thing is, you can immediately guard RIGHT after using Raging Blast, which puts you in a safe place to avoid getting murdered.
4) When he's below 300k, he'll start using First Aid and Guardian Field. The first one isn't annoying, but the second one can be since he can heal up to 32,892 HP in one go 5,482 HP at a time (though he doesn't spam it as much as Alexei's Guardian Frost). I RECOMMEND HAVING AZURE EDGE IN YOUR MOVE LIST. Use Azure Edge from afar to interrupt him from healing (much), but be careful you're not too close so he can strike you down fast.
5) Try to replicate the skills Yuri has that I turned on.
6) Ensure that Yuri's HP remains high enough. NEVER face Flynn when you're under 8k HP.
- Best of luck defeating him on Unknown. It took me dozens of defeats to be able to find the best strategy I could think of.
- The Secret Mission involves forcing Flynn to use all his artes, including his MA, spells, and healing artes (so yes, let him use First Aid). Notably, this is harder just because he uses more artes starting from the PS3 version. The artes he uses here are:
Demon Fang
Sonic Thrust
Tiger Blade
Demonic Chaos (the Demon Fang spam)
Demonic Circle (the "**** you, you're dead" arte)
Beast
Dragon Swarm
Rising Falcon
Hell Fire Blade
Severing Blade
Dazzling Spin
First Aid (Spell)
Luminant Scythe (Spell)
Holy Lance (Spell)
Radiant Dragon Fang (Mystic Arte)
- Once done, a scene will occur with him to point out you did the mission. This lets you get the Paladin Cape accessory.
