[TAS] Doom 2 Map 08 Co-op No Monsters in 0:08.94
A while ago Zero-Master mentioned on Discord that a glide here was possible. I tried for a very, very long time to get it to work single-player with a rocket to save a few seconds on a UV-Speed D2All, couldn't manage it, decided to do this instead of never seeing the trick work at all.
I ended up making this four times. XDRE totally wrecked the demo inputs (sometimes happens with multiplayer tases, no idea why), then I just did a quick rough one to show the trick off, then I got 9.06 so I made it again with some friendly fire to get an 8. Then on the last time I made it, I had a weird issue which kept causing my brute forces to fail after they had reportedly succeeded. So after all that, and after spending 6ish months of on-and-off effort trying to get it to work single-player and failing, I'm really, really, really fucking sick of this map.
It's cool because it's a void glide and all, but don't get too excited, it's not really hugely useful especially compared to some other ones like E2M6 and E1M8.
- For UV-Speed/Pacifist getting a good baron room, and then getting an imp in the right spot, and then getting a fast glide, and then getting a quick zero press would be absolute hell. An I.L. demo may be worth someones suffering I suppose, but I think it's obviously safe to say it's far too much for a D2All.
- For a TAS: as I mentioned, I couldn't get it to work with a rocket boost into the corner (as much as I hate to think about it though, I can't say for sure that it's impossible) so that means doing it with imp is necessary. If you do enter the level with a rocket launcher though, like if you're doing a D2All, you can skip some linedefs in that room so you can run out much quicker, at which point it's hard to say if just running out of the room would be better or worse than this glide.
- For a TAS, if you enter the room in an I.L. demo, it seems like this glide would be the way to go. Dunno yet, I'll do it sometime unless someone beats me to it.
The only other No Monsters co-op demo for this map I'm aware of is Loopers 4-Player co-op D2All from 2013 which completed this level in 10.94, so it just saves a few seconds.
