[TAS] Tail Concerto in 1:00:06.74 (59:43 RTA)
‘Tail Concerto’ is an action-adventure platformer developed by CyberConnect (currently known as CyberConnect2) and published by Bandai for the original PlayStation. It is the first installment in the Little Tail Bronx series, which takes place in a steampunk fantasy world of floating islands populated by anthropomorphic dogs and cats. The game revolves around a canine police officer named Waffle Ryebread and his encounters with the Black Cats Gang, a group of sky pirates who aim to steal magic crystals.
Tail Concerto was first released in Japan in April 1998 and the following December in France, with an English version released in North America in November 1999 by Atlus USA. Though the game received a generally positive response from critics, Tail Concerto didn't sell as well as CyberConnect and Bandai had hoped with approximately 97,000 units sold in Japan, and while it was released in France and the United States, the low sales resulted in it having a limited release.
Regardless of the low sales, Tail Concerto managed to gain a small but passionate cult following, as well as a spiritual sequel called ‘Solatorobo: Red the Hunter’ in October 2010 for the Nintendo DS, a Japanese-exclusive short-lived mobile RPG called ‘Little Tail Story’ in March 2014 for iOS and Android, and even a spiritual prequel called ‘Fuga: Melodies of Steel’ in July 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X, and the Nintendo Switch, with a sequel following suit in May 2023.
This updated TAS of Tail Concerto beats my previous attempt by 2 minutes, finishing the game just shy of under one hour from Power-On.

If you have any questions about this game, I'll attempt to explain them as best as I can here.
Q: Why are you using the Japanese version for this TAS?
A: You can mash through the characters' dialogue with Square and Circle as opposed to just X on the US version, therefore you're able to skip dialogue slightly faster. You can also do this on the French version if you don't mind everything already running 16.67% slower.
Q: Is the protagonist seriously called Waffle Ryebread?
A: Yes, and I think that’s the best damn name for a dog, fictional or otherwise.
Q: Is it necessary to catch every kitten you see?
A: It’s the only way you can really progress in most cases, so yes.
Q: Now do All Photo Pieces / Any% Hard on the US version!
A: Probably not for a long while. I feel pretty burnt out on Tail Concerto TASing at the moment.
Q: Flare, would you like a Waffle?
A: There is no more Waffle! I has them all.
