Professor Victor Okafor is head of the Department of Africology and African American Studies at Eastern Michigan University. Author of five books, Dr. Okafor has also contributed chapters to several anthologies and published a variety of scholarly articles in journals
such as the Western Journal of Black Studies, the Journal of Black Studies, Africa Update, and the Griot. Teaching both offline and online in professional and academic settings, Dr. Okafor’s overall teaching experience includes courses on or related to:
• The history of Black studies
• Theories, methods and methodologies in Black
studies
• Black politics and public policy
• Multiculturalism
Each unique session in this webinar series will focus on the history of the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. Okafor will discuss how the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s sought to break down racial barriers to equal opportunity, desegregate society, and
eliminate negative implications of racial distinctions.
