Tecmo's Deception Review - Video Games Get Real
5Tecmo's Deception is an odd, but cult classic game. Many horror games have legendary followings, like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but the Deception Series is more of a niche RPG-strategy-horror hybrid game. Like many RPGs, you can buy items from merchants. But in Deception, Merchants invade your castle and try to destroy you and steal your treasure...unless you walk up to them and offer them money!! Bizarre Gameplay mechanics are everywhere, like music themes blaring through your speakers just for acquiring items. The player can turn captured victims into monsters like werewolves, and, oh yeah, is entirely DEFENSELESS once the traps have been sprung, so you'd better watch out!
This series pokes fun at the unrealistic conventions of video games, where logic and realism fly out the window, and Tecmo's Deception is a fantastic exhibit of these flawed but hilarious gameplay quirks!!
