How certain characters, places and gameplay elements are pronounced is something that's become a passion point for a lot of players, but with the introduction of voice acting with Final Fantasy X, it did help to make things a bit clearer and uniform.

Still, there are certain habits that are hard to kick and with Square Enix's lack of consistency with pronunciation, it also means that people are justified in hanging onto pronunciations that aren't what they hope would be the official form.

There are examples throughout the franchise, such as how to pronounce bahamut or Sephiroth, or Tifa, Yuffie, and perhaps the biggest is how to pronounce Tidus. This is a topic that has exploded over the years and it doesn't look like it's going to be disappearing anytime soon!
