Tejas MK-2 jet prototype to make maiden flight in early 2026
India’s Defence Aeronautics Development Agency (ADA) said there has been significant progress in the development of the indigenous Tejas MK-2 fighter jet.
The first prototype of the aircraft is expected to make its maiden flight in early 2026.
Tejas MK-2 is scheduled to join the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2028-2029 to add to its existing combat strength.
Tejas MK-2 is a larger and more powerful variant compared to HAL Tejas MK-1. Its avionics, radar, weapons and engine performance are also improved.
The Mk-2 uses a more powerful engine, a larger fuselage, and a more sophisticated radar system, including an AESA ( active electronically scanned array ) radar.
In terms of armament, the Tejas MK-2 is equipped with air-to-air, air-to-ground missiles, bombs and rockets.
The canard-delta wing aircraft will also be equipped with modern electronic warfare (EW) equipment and defense systems to increase its survivability on the battlefield.
