Apparent leak for Tekken 8's first DLC character appears online; game's Producer steps in to try and debunk it

The home stretch is here leading up to Tekken 8's big launch later this month, and there's still a fair bit we don't know about the title.

That includes the game's DLC characters, the first of which appeared to just leak online through Bandai Namco's official channels... but maybe not after all.

Appearing on places like ResetEra, Reddit and X/Twitter, a screen capture taken of the Tekken 8 playlist on the Bandai Namco Entertainment America YouTube channel started getting passed around that caught fans' attention.

The alleged video was titled "Tekken 8 – DLC 1 Josie Rizal Reveal & Gameplay Trailer" though it didn't have any thumbnail to go along with it.

Despite that, it looked pretty legit at first glance with the same title structure and video length as the other trailers before the leakers claimed it was removed.

The problem is these types of leaks are easy to fake like we just recently saw with the false Tekken 8 PlayStation Store DLC listings, and it appears this is likely the case here too.

Tekken 8 Producer Michael Murray took to social media early this morning to pour a bucket of water on the situation.

"I know it's part of the fun, but please don't get worked up over fake screens," wrote Murray in his post. "I don't want people getting upset when it didn't turn out to be true :(."

While there is a chance he could be simply trying to dispel and quell the rumors to try and keep the surprise factor, he typically doesn't comment on real leaks. That's usually up to Katsuhiro Harada venting his frustrations.

Bandai Namco's official channels have accidentally leaked Tekken 8 characters early a couple of times over the past year, but the team is more than likely innocent here.

There is still technically an unavailable video that's hidden in the Tekken 8 playlist on YouTube though we don't know how long it's been there currently.

The screen grab has also been removed from Reddit for likely being fake as well.

Josie was introduced in Tekken 7 as the first fighter in the series from the Philippines, who gained a fairly sizable fan base in her initial outing.

That being said, however, Josie would be an odd pick to kick off Tekken 8's DLC roster since she doesn't have as much of a history with the series while other longtime staples are still on the sidelines too.

As to who the first DLC character will actually be, we won't have to wait much longer to find out at all.
