I was hoping to start putting up these videos with the release of Terminator Genysis but, as usual, life got in the way of it. I had a lot of problems finding the correct aspect-ratio too since widescreen (1.78:1) ends up becoming cinemascope (2.37:1) when this game is upscaled through GS Mode Selector (as you might be able to tell from the video).

Terminator: Dawn of Fate was released back in 2002. It is a prequel to the first Terminator film, set during the war against the machines in 2029 (2027 in the game). The story is all about Kyle Reese and his comrades, as they help turn the tide of the war in favour of TechCom (the Human resistance). Yet, as we discover later on, the machines have others plans - and Kyle’s fate ultimately lies in the past: To protect Sarah Connor in 1984.

Without giving a full review, Dawn of Fate plays alot like Devil May Cry. The third person camera is very floaty; sometimes overhead, other times over the shoulder. There are dedicated melee attacks and a lock-on feature for shooting any of the cybernetic foes dispersed throughout the levels of this game. What makes Dawn of Fate different from Capcom’s 2001 hit however is there is whole lot more shooting involved.

Terminator: Dawn of Fate has a whole assortment of weapons ranging from shotguns, to grenades, machine guns, etc, etc. Fans of the series would likewise be familiar with the futuristic weapons mentioned in the movies, such as the phased plasma rifle that packs something of a punch by the later levels of the game. Aside from that, you accumulate points with your kills which contribute to a basic levelling up system for your characters and their abilities, no doubt designed with multiple playthroughs in mind.

This video series is played entirely from scratch on Normal/Medium difficulty. While I liked what I played of Dawn of Fate I still can’t get over the presentation values of this release. Neither Kyle Reese nor the eponymous Terminator that is sent to kill Sarah Connor look anything like Michael Biehn or Arnold Schwarznegger respectively.

Anyway, on with the video!
