Testing Gear VR apps on Quest 3 - Minecraft & Smash Hit
Tested the only 2 games I truly care about from gear VR side loaded to my quest 3
Minecraft fully works and thinks the quest 3's touch controllers are an Xbox controller and all buttons are mapped correctly.
It seems there's no mapping to enter immersive mode which is unfortunate as 6dof seems to be supported here. It also runs 100x better than Questcraft no shocker there.
B and R-analog click are mapped to sneak/squat for some reason.
I'm a bit surprised that Minecraft gear VR got updated to the fairly recent nether update or the fact @Bearman3600 never made a video about the port.
Smash hit was a priority for me to test and compatibility was listed as "no" for quest 3.
Not sure if it meant fully incompatible, crashes on boot, or untested so I decided to test it out anyway.
It's playable with the tradeoff of bad eye stereoscopic support to the point I had to close one eye just to play. Best way to describe it is having to focus on 2 16:9 screens right in the middle for 3d depth and having to go crosseyed.
Shooting is mapped to the head and the shoot button has some oddities of its own.
It's mapped to using the A and Trigger button at the same time but will misbehave randomly and some times not shoot.
Kinda surprised this one didn't get ported to quest 2/3 natively.
It's a fantastic mobile game that would work better in VR (except for people with motion sickness in some levels)
I hope one day mediocre can port smash hit to the Quest 2 & 3 one day with both hands to shoot.
Same for Minecraft gearvr to have fully compatibility on quest 2&3 by a talented community modder
Mojang is too lazy to make anything competent so an official quest port is a lost cause.
Thank you to the guys who made the Gear VR vault website.
