The 1st 15: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Multiplayer)
Now that Advanced Warfare's initial charm has worn off, I do find myself concerned over a couple of things. Foremost amongst them is level size; each level I played, however well designed aesthetically, was rather cramped, and didn't lend themselves to a careful approach in terms of tactics, giving a bit of credence to the usual franchise criticisms of favoring "run n' gun" gameplay over more carefully planned, squad-oriented gameplay.
That said, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. While I may personally prefer somewhat more cerebral shooters, I don't necessarily expect my taste to account for those of all others, and I'd by lying if I said I didn't get into the mood now and again to toss caution and consideration to the dust in favor of charging into gunfights heedless of any modicum of tactical awareness. It's a matter of taste and preference that often gets confused with a matter of quality, when the debate is often apples and oranges.
What's not a matter of preference is the game's total lack of dedicated servers, which, in hindsight, I believe accounts for my inability to connect to a match outside of Combat Readiness, and which I know to have been promised prior to release. That's a problem, and one that Activision ought to rectify soon if they've any concern at all for their product's reputation.
All told, I've actually rather enjoyed my short time with Advanced Warfare, and if the game does sport the sort of interesting customization progression that it looks like it does, I could see this game incentivizing continued play long enough to justify its cost for diehard FPS fans.
