Chapter 2 in the story of Aiden Jackson.

The sky seemed the limit for Mercedes junior driver Aiden Jackson after finishing the 2020 F2 season runner up to runaway champion Mick Schumacher, but while Schumacher and Yuki Tsunoda were promoted to F1 race seats, Jackson was snubbed by HAAS in favor of his former Hitech GP teammate Nikita Mazepin, breaking the agreement put in place that HAAS would take the top placed driver. As a result Mercedes signed him on as a development driver and promised him a run in two practice sessions during 2021 F1 season.

Controversy around Mazepin over a social media post sparked a movement calling him to be dropped, despite a team statement claiming the matter had been discussed internally and were willing to move on, the FIA stepped in by ordering a demotion to reserve for the year. The head of the teams title sponsor did agree to the terms but froze development funds for 2021 forcing the team into a gap year to focus on 2022 development to prepare for the regulations shake up, but they still needed a second driver to partner the 2020 F2 champion Mick Schumacher.

Mercedes make a call and offer them Jackson on loan for the 2021 season along with some compensation. With HAAS set to be confined to the back of the grid in 2021, expectations will be low which takes the pressure off both rookie drivers who were the best in class the year before.
